The Severna Park Republican Women's Club also referred to as the SPRWC is a group of women who share the same political beliefs and enjoy meeting to promote the principals of conservative government. Our purpose is to foster and encourage loyalty to the Republican Party and its ideals. We collect, and report on information concerning our government, our community and their political interests. We support local, State, and National Republican organizations. We are dedicated to the election and support of Republican candidates in our government. We are particularly interested in increasing the number of women registered as Republicans and supporting Republican women candidates.
Our club was founded in 1964 when Marjorie Holt, Betty Edy, and Sue Litty, gathered together the first 10 initial members chartered with The National Federation of Republican Women. One of our founding members, Marjorie Holt, who is a current member to this day, was elected to the ninety-third congress and to the six succeeding Congresses (Jan 3, 1973 through Jan 3, 1987). She is the first woman from the State of Maryland to be elected to the U.S.Congress, and continues to be a guiding voice in the leadership of our club.
Currently we have 100 members who hold full membership, and 23 Associate members, which make us one of the largest clubs in the state and growing every day!
The Republican Party is the party of Abraham Lincoln, the party which opposed slavery, the party which fought for the right of women to vote. We are a party whose timeless ideals hold true in the 21st Century as they did in the 19th.
